April 2010: Wagenings golf and Italian dinner

On Tuesday 27 April ten PhD students (all female) enjoyed Wagenings golf and an Italian dinner in Wageningen. During Wagenings golf we jumped fences, sang with some turkey and were aggressive as we hit each other with the, fortunately, soft ball. We also heard some sheep, or was it a human in distress? We enjoyed the Italian dinner at Sa Lolla, although some of us could not finish their pizza. Again a successful event, but we hope that next time some guys will join us ;-)!

February 2010: dinner and bowling evening

On Wednesday 24 February 11 PhD students went to Veenendaal for a dinner at 'Eetcafé 't Gelag' and bowling at 'Bowlingcentrum Veenendaal'. After some searching we arrived a bit late at the café, where one of us was already waiting at the table for 20 minutes. We enjoyed the dinner with nice background music and went to the bowling centre. The bowling centre personnel cleaned the bowling alley specially for us resulting in one of us falling down! Results of the bowling game: Patricia 111, Laura 107, Krista 102, Anouk 96, Mascha 87, Anne 72, Elske 69, Harma 69, Marije 61, Carol 58. A successful and 'gezellig' social event!

December 2007: the WAPS Council wins the Animal Sciences Group 'Team of the Year Award'!

Motivation for the ASG 'Team of the Year Award' for the WAPS council

The WAPS council acts on behalf of all PhD students that are member of WIAS. They play a very important role within WIAS and ASG as a whole because they:

Contribute to the improvement of the quality of the training programme for PhD Students and WIAS staff through active participation in the WIAS education committee and stimulating the development of courses. Last year they organized an inventory among the PhD students to identify training needs. This has resulted in a number of courses that have been or are being organized.

They organize the annual WIAS Science day: an important event that stimulates exchange of ideas on research.

They make a very important contribution to the scientific environment in WIAS through their social activities which brings PhD students working in different groups, locations (Wageningen, Lelystad, IJmuiden) and nationalities (50% of PhD students is non-Dutch) together.

For this year: members of WAPS council have played an important role in organizing the first Wageningen PhD party.

The WAPS council consist of PhD students from different groups and they work together in a very good manner. During their period that PhD students serve in WAPS council they develop competences that are very important for their later career.

The WAPS council plays a very important role for WIAS. WIAS is being recognized as a student oriented graduate school. This would be impossible without the active role of the WAPS council.
