There are several committees around WIAS and Wageningen University in which the WAPS Council is active.
If you are interested to join us, please don't hesitate to contact our chairman Myrthe or secretary Harma!

Aim of the WAPS Council

The aim of the WAPS (WIAS Associated PhD Students) Council is to act in the interest of all WIAS PhD Candidates by active participation in the WIAS Education Committee, Wageningen PhD Council and the WIAS Board. The WAPS strives for a good education programme, contributes to future research plans, and facilitates contacts between WIAS PhD Candidates. We monitor and act upon internal and external developments that might affect WIAS PhD Candidates.

WIAS Education Committee (EC)

WIAS Education Committee consists of 3 WIAS staff members and 3 WIAS PhD candidates from the WAPS council. The organization, contents and quality of the education program is an important concern of the WAPS Council, because education is an essential part of your PhD period. The WIAS Education Committee approves the submitted TSP based on the advice of the WIAS education coordinator.

Wageningen PhD Council (WPC)

The WPC represents the interests of all PhD candidates of Wageningen University. WPC discusses a wide variety of PhD related issues on regular basis, e.g. CAO developments in collective agreements, improvement of the position of early stage researchers, concerns etc. WPC exchanges 'best practices' and contributes to the cohesion between PhD councils of the different Wageningen based graduate schools. In the WPC, one member of each Wageningen graduated school is represented. WPC is chaired by the Dean of Wageningen graduate schools. This guarantees a direct contact with the directors of each graduate school of Wageningen University.

WIAS Board

The WIAS Board is responsible for good research and training of young researchers and making decisions within WIAS. The chairman of the WAPS Council is a representative in the WIAS Board. Therefore, the WAPS Council advises the WIAS Board on all kind of matters and is actively involved in decision making.
