Introduction:
FMD is a contagious viral disease of cloven-hoofed animals which can cause severe economic losses to the farm animal industries. Previously, our group has set cattle as animal models for this disease and transmission studies. Results support the design of a new experiment using a different strain than the previously used. Apart from the estimation of R, the transmission rate and infectious period are important parameters to consider. Viral excretion and secretion quantification data can also help us to understand better the nature of FMDV transmission between species. Our aim is to understand better indirect and direct transmission of FMDV in cattle considering different parameters.
