Introduction:
Mussels (Mytilus edulis) in the Wadden Sea serve as an important food source for local species, they are as well extensively cultured by mussel farmers. The growth and survival of these mussels are controlled by environmental conditions, like food availability, hydrodynamics and predation. The core question is to what extent mussel culture influences the total mussel biomass in the Wadden Sea and how seed origin and farmer management has its influence on this balance. A production model for the mussel culture in the Wadden Sea will be developed.
