Introduction:
Claw disorders and lameness in dairy cattle are an important problem because of reduced welfare and economic losses. Despite much research and knowledge on claw disorders the incidence and prevalence are not decreasing. Besides, dairy farmers underestimate the problem of claw disorders. Because it is the farmer who has to establish the improvement more insight in the socio-economic background of decisions of farmers with regard to claw disorders is needed. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to analyse and evaluate the ethical weighing process by the farmer when choosing for possible measures. Based on this, advise can be given how to approach this serious welfare problem.
