Introduction:
Worldwide, over 40 million people per year encounter a food-borne (mainly due to fish) infection with trematodes. Parasitic infections with liver flukes (Opistorchis viverrini and Clonorchis sinensis) are a serious public health threat in parts of Asia. Goal of the project is to obtain accurate quantitative data regarding prevalence of both fluke species in integrated livestock (mainly pigs)-fish production systems in Vietnam and to identify and quantify key risk factors with the ultimate goal to enable science based recommendations and prioritization for control measures.
