Introduction:
The general objective of this project is to identify and quantify the concentration and emission of dust and pathogens as well as the relationship between dust and pathogens during airborne transmission in livestock production. Effects of environmental condition, especially moisture and temperature, on viability of airborne pathogens are studied. Dust will be characterized by the size of the particles and by its composition, e.g. concentrations of bacteria, fungi, viruses. Methods to reduce dust and pathogen concentrations in animal houses and to reduce dust and pathogen emissions from animal houses will be tested and evaluated.
